Abstract

To ensure the success of a rural strategy to be implemented at the Lancaster County, county residents including mainly Amish and Mennonites, were called to a public forum last spring. Residents and members of the Lancaster County Planning Commission agreed that the area's rural character be maintained. The first of the planning efforts, under way since last July, is the Southern Lancaster County (Solanco) Regional Comprehensive Plan, which involves the four townships closest to the Maryland border, Lancaster County's most rural region. The second plan, also currently under way, is the Eastern Lancaster County (Elanco) Regional Comprehensive Plan. Both plans are made consistent with the county's comprehensive plan.
