Understanding and Applying Psychology through Use of News Clippings

Elizabeth A. Rider, Elizabethtown College

Abstract

To promote application of course material to the world outside the classroom, students prepared portfolios of magazine articles and newspaper clippings that illustrated psychological concepts. For each clipping, students wrote a brief description or explanation of how it related to a psychological concept, theory or research covered in class or the textbook. Students evaluated the project positively on several dimensions, including increased knowledge about course material and application of material outside the classroom. © 1992, SAGE Publications.
